Last week, Google launched a major update of the Google My Business API. The Google My Business API in version 3.0 offers new features to easily manage your business location information. As one of the first partners worldwide, Uberall integrated the GMB API into its online presence management solution to help manage and update our clients’ and partners’ location data in real-time.
With the latest update, Google provides its GMB clients with a simplified usability and enhanced functionality of their Google My Business account. This offers you and your clients amplified opportunities to be found by customers searching online and gives you more control when creating and editing your location data.
Great new features
Read and Respond to Google Reviews: users regularly create content and share their experiences about your business and brand. Apart from being able to monitor all of the Google reviews you receive, the API-update now allows you to respond to all of those reviews directly from one centralized place, which in the case of Uberall clients is the Location Control Center. So take this as an opportunity to simply and efficiently engage in a dialogue with your prospects and customers to successfully keep your business engaged with your client base.
Add Enhanced Location Attributes: as customer expectations are increasing and becoming more diverse, basic location data such as the address or opening hours are no longer sufficient to describe all aspects of your business. This new feature enables you to define your business with additional category-specific details about your location. So for example, restaurants can note that they accept reservations or have outdoor seating and hotels can specify that they serve brunch or welcome pets. Currently these additional location attributes do not appear on the Google My Business dashboard, but they are already available via the GMB API.
Indicate Prefered Photo for Search Results: Google now enables you to determine which photo you would like to display as your main photo in Google Maps and Search results. By controlling your images via the GMB API, do not miss the chance to make a trustworthy first impression.
Improved Matching of Locations: the updated API allows you to identify and manually match a business to existing Maps locations.
Transfer Locations to Other Accounts: if you manage multiple locations on Google My Business, the updated API makes it possible to divide those into separate business accounts or move them between personal and business accounts, provided you have location ownership. Hence, local representatives would be entitled to only manage their appropriate accounts.
Improved Search Filters: in the location overview in your GMB account, new filters will be available allowing you to sort your locations by listing status (Google updates, suspended, duplicate).
Additional Location States: the GMB API update offers improved capabilities to identify the GMB profile status, i.e. whether it is verified or needs re-verification. This allows us to more explicitly define the current status and next steps in the verification process and makes the verification of your location through the API even easier for you.
Improved management and feedback monitoring
This update is great news in many ways.
Google is working hard on improving the options for businesses to control their online presence in real-time. The new features enable you to better manage your Google My Business locations offering an enhanced local search experience to customers who will be able to better understand your business and your offers. The improved customer feedback management is especially valuable in allowing you and your client businesses to constantly and more conveniently communicate with your customers.
We always wish to keep you up-to-date about news and changes on how you can manage your location data more efficiently to build a strong, competitive business.
